MINISTRY AND PRIESTHOOD COURSES

  • February 15, 22, March 1 & 8 Introduction to Scripture. This course is a required course for new ordinands. Course schedule is from 6:30pm-9:00pm each of the four Wednesdays. Facilitator: Dale Jones. Location: Village Heights congregation (1009 Farview Dr., Independence). You will also need to bring Bibles (NRSV version preferred), Bible Dictionaries, Concordances, etc. to class as well as snacks to share. YOUTH

  • February 15,2017 and the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each monthis Elevate! at Colonial Hills congregation (3539 S MO 7 Highway, Blue Springs) from 6:45pm-8:30pm for all youth grades 8th – 12th.   • February 16 & 26, March 16 & 26, and April 13 & 23 Child Protection Training at Gudgell Park congregation (500 Gudgell, Independence) at 6:00pm on Thursdays (February 16, March 16 and April 13) and 1:30pm on Sundays (February 26, March 26 and April 23). If you are involved in working with youth in your congregation and/or with Mission Center events and/or a new ordinand, you MUST be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ.   • Central Mission is seeking a fully licensed nurse for Middle and Junior school camps this summer. This is a volunteer position requiring you to stay overnight at Lake Doniphan for the duration of camp. Dates for Middle School camp are July 11th-16th, Junior Camp is July 17th-21st.   We also encourage licensed Medical Doctor’s, Physician’s assistant’s, Paramedics and EMT’s to apply. Your license must be up to date and for the state of MO. You are required to attend one training session prior to the start of camp.   • All children and youth are welcome to participate in the youth ministry events at Colonial Hills congregation (3539 S MO 7 Highway, Blue Springs). Go to colonial-hills.org for calendars of events for Play Group (babies-Pre-K), Community Kid’s Club (K-5th) and Youth Group (6th-12th). It is great to be part of Community!

COMMUNITY

  • TODAY- February 12 Center Place Singers Chicken Dinner from 11:30am–1:30pm in the dining hall of the Stone Church congregation (1012 W Lexington, Independence). Cost: $10.00 for Adults; $4.00 for children 3-10; free for children under 2. Enjoy oven-baked chicken, great fellowship, and musical entertainment. Tickets available from any choir member or at the door. Carry-out also available.
  • February 24On KCPT (channel 19) at 10:30pm, the Arts Upload program will air Episode #409 which includes an interview of Principal Organist Jan Kraybill about her 18th Super Bowl Sunday Concert which occurred on February 5th.
  • February 18 The UMKC Conservatory Choirs join with several area high school choirs at The Community of Christ Temple at 7:30pm to present the 5th annual Celebration of Peace Festival, a concert to benefit the Rose Brooks Center. Free admission, donations accepted to benefit the Rose Brooks Center. Sponsored by UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance and Community of Christ.

LIFE CELEBRATIONS

  • TODAY - February 12 90th Birthday celebration for Roland Hughes at Village Heights congregation (1009 Farview Dr., Independence) from Noon-2:00pm.

VOLUNTEER

  • The Peace Pavilion is greatly in need of volunteer Tour Group Docents who explain the exhibits. Tours are usually Tuesdays and Thursdays and some Saturdays. The Groups may be daycares, schools, preschools or scout troops. Morning or afternoon hours.   • Volunteer to be a Session chaplain for the Community of Christ Scouting Committee at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. This is a great volunteer opportunity for someone who wants to get more involved in a program to help out our youth, get back into Scouting or just have a fun adventure this summer where you can be outside and impact the spiritual life of young men.
